All Hale LPS in one Elle of a week as we do like to be beside the seaside.

Another week passes with yet more achievements on the road, track and trail for LPS.

As per usual our friends at Knowsley Harriers facilitated the monthly 5k in aid of the Walton Centre. It occurs on the 1st Saturday of each month and is a decent quality race.  This month LPS dominated the proceedings with 1st, 2nd and 3rd places overall followed by a 1st female finish too.  Se Loughlin, approaching full fitness, comfortably took 1st place in 15:45 with Adam Jones in a very impressive 2nd place, taking a PB of 16:24, despite his shorts.  In 3rd place, Mark Wynne finished in 16:43. Lisa Gawthorne, running well within herself (coach’s orders) , still managed to finish first female in 17th (19:04) and provided Ste Bolton with a target which enabled him to achieve his 5k PB of 19:26 ahead of his fellow triathlete, Peter Gaskell, who also broke the 20 minute barrier with 19:55.

On the same weekend we also had a strong contingent in Wrexham for the village bakery half marathon.  Al Grant and Chris Maher were attempting to qualify for various England teams whilst Mark Hudson just needed a loaf of bread but still managed to run the event, aged 60+, quicker than I could cycle it. Phil Macdonald making up the male contingent continues to quietly impress.

Strong results for the team with Chris returning home in a PB of 1:13.56, Al Grant in 1:21.30, which subject to confirmation should put him in the England set up for his age category, which is an incredible achievement. Phil also turned in a PB of 1:29.19 with Mark next in 1:34.17. The men were joined by Sarah Grant who completed the 13 mile stretch in an impressive 1:41.09.

On Sunday we had a number of our female athletes taking part in the Southport Seaside 10k. It’s fair to say that we had a very impressive result with Kirsty Longley finishing as 1st female in 35:30 putting her in 4th overall position.  Joanna Durkin and Rachel Yates finished 4th and 7th females with PB times of 40:40 and 42:47 meaning that we had 3 ladies in the top ten, 1st and second in the V45 category and 1st in the V40 category. This result was compounded by 15 years old Anna Yates who finished 3rd in the U20 category in a time of 49:29.

Nick Turner was our sole male representative and finished in 11th place overall with a time of 37:15.

As the track season closes, there’s only a few more nights of Trafford AC opens. This week, Lisa Gawthorne and Elle Anderson took part in the 3000m where Lisa achieved (yet another!) PB of 10:55.15.  Elle, making her debut, produced a superb 10:06.26 to continue her great form since return from injury.

And finally, the Wavertree mystery 5K provided Andrew Conway with the opportunity to achieve his season’s best 5k time of 21:38 and Al Grant to consolidate his strong season with a time of 18:12.

A busy but very rewarding week for LPS, now let’s look forward to the road relays.
