For the 4th year running, Jamie Hopkins represented Lancashire in the Octathlon at the English Schools Combined Events Championships in Exeter (21/22 Sept), and he put in both an outstanding and inspirational performance. Forty of the best multi-eventers in the country attended and the standard this year was extremely high. A number of barriers were broken by Jamie, and his results are shown below;
Long Jump 6.01m (PB)
Discus 26.70m (PB)
Javelin 36.47m (LOTS OF WIND)
400m 54.71 (PB)
100m Hurdles 14.94 (heavy rain)
High Jump 1.80m (PB)
Shot Put 8.94
1500m 4:58.56 (PB)
Jamie finished in a very creditable 18th place, and top of the pile for those Northern athletes attending, with a score of 4305 (PB), highlights being Long Jumps, High Jump and a sensational 1500m run.
So Jamie has finished the season, with a power of ten ranking as top of the pile for U17M multi-eventers in the north of England in 2019, and its now all about stepping up to the decathlons and U20M in 2020.
Who wants to follow him into combined eventing?
