The ‘Hale 5 Miler’ took place on Sunday and there was double joy for two Liverpool Pembroke & Sefton runners who produced excellent performances on the day. Kirsty Longley(29.38) was the first female runner home, while Mark Wynne finished in 8th place overall but first over 40 in a new personal best time of 27.16.
There has also been a flurry of open meetings in recent weeks in the build up to the new season with many of the club’s younger athletes taking part.
Jenny Pyatt(U20) discus throw of 43.30m at Blackpool puts her in the top 10 in the country in the UKA rankings. Lauren Lewis(U17W) has also started the season in impressive form posting a time of 12.9 for 100m, 26.7 for 200m and 12.8 for the 80m hurdles At Bebington, Owen Southern reached a new height(1.83m) in the U17 men’s high jump with Jorden Pilkington achieving 1.55m in the women’s event.
At Wigan, Erin Birchall (U17W) was delighted with her performance in the long jump (5.19m) and her 100 metre time of 13.19 sec despite it being wind assisted. Abigail Bamber (U15G) also excelled in the 100 metres running a new pb of 13.23 sec.
