LPS were at Clarke Gardens for the annual Liverpool and District Cross country championships which date back to 1892. There was a good turn out of members but all eyes were on Kevin Usher who has not competed at this level for over 20 years. At 50 the former class act has certainly not lost his talent and he was prominent from the gun. Running powerfully he came home in seventh spot. Mark Wynne(12) was also running well with Richard Weeks(14) on his tail. Sammy Rashid(20) momentarily gave hope for medals as Danny Gilbody(41) and Chris Pedder(46) closed in but the packing was just not insufficient to net bronze. Fourth team was the result.
Sean Kirkbride(47) followed and then the club had Andrew Foster(58), Robbie Wood(72), Steve Lennon(82), Mark Hudson(90), Vicky Jones(95), Andrew Conway(122), Paul Rudkin(126) and John Dobie(129). The day will be remembered though for the joy of watching Kevin Usher in full flow once again.
