With the backdrop of the Hall, the tree-lined course and the winter sunshine, Towneley Park proved an ideal setting for race 4 in the Mid-Lancs series of cross country races.
Following their success in the county championships the previous week, the U17 men put in another impressive performance. Dan Jones led from start to finish and was well supported by Ross Harrison(6), Joe Gordon (8), James Metcalfe(13) & Glenn Sherwin(14). They comfortably won the team event and with it, the league title, despite there still being two races to go.
U15B closed in on league leaders Blackpool by finishing 2nd, with Tom Dickinson (2), Tom Corcoran(7), Joe Houghton(14) and Oliver Sutcliffe(15). Only two points separate the first 3 teams in this age group.
The Senior Women finished in 3rd place and first over 35 team. Kirsty Longley (2) was followed home by debutant Hilary Honeyball(14), Clare Constable (17), Vicky Jones(25) & Kirsty Mackenzie(66). Dan Gilbody was the sole senior man in 94th place.
The younger age-groups found the heavy conditions underfoot quite demanding. U11B finished 6th, with James Read(21), Isaac Dickinson(28), James Roberts(29),Josh Price(36),Evan Williams(40) & Jamie Cowan(64). U13B with Mark Roberts(13), Thomas Ralfs(28), Jake Ferreira(55), Ethan Edwards(56) & Daniel Rathbone(57) were the 8th placed team.
With a Merseyside schools race taking place on the same day, the girls were somewhat depleted and unable to field a team in any age group.
At U11, age, Chloe Bousfield managed to beat twin sister Lucy for the first time. Olivia Morgan(40) & Freya Wissett(48) were the sole runners at U13 level, while Amelia Hitchmough(13) ran well in the U15 race. With two races remaining, there is still everything to run for.
