Between them Liverpool Pembroke Sefton stars, Kirsty Longley and Lisa Gawthorne, have chalked up numerous wins. They were at it again in the Women`s Running Magazine series of countrywide races. This time it was a multi-surface course at Liverpool`s Sefton Park. Kirsty was, as usual, untroubled in winning the 10K race in 38.25. This time was the fastest in the entire series. Similarly Lisa took the parallel 5K race by a wide margin in 20.54. This is a formidable duo gracing the local road racing scene.
In a quiet weekend for the club endurance coach Mark Bleasdale took some of his squad to Ormskirk for the Saturday morning 5K Park Run at Edge Hill University. James Loftus led throughout, clearly pushing for a personal best time. The blustery conditions prevented this but 17.06 was impressive. Kyle Nicholls pushed hard against the wind and made an impression on James in the run-in. His time of 17.22 was a personal best. Not too far adrift Mark Wynne recorded 17.46. To complete the whitewash of the first four spots Tessa Walker raced to 17.53 which for her was also a PB. Vet Greg Callaghan, now in the Vet Over 50 age group, finished seventh with a highly respectable 18.35. The local club are successfully integrating this popular race series into their training schedules.
