| Cross Country Relays Only two weeks after taking the National Road Relay title the Liverpool Pembroke Sefton Under 15 trio were at Mansfield for the equivalent National Cross Country Relays. David  Forrester Helm Hesketh Forrester clearly enjoys the first leg spot and refuses to be intimidated by the class athletes most clubs run on this stage. His confidence is currently sky high and he stormed away to give his club a 1second lead in 6.18 for the 2 kilometre lap course. The Tarleton duo of Chris Hesketh and Jake Helm were to follow and by now most clubs were looking for the minor placings. Chris ran 6.22 and LPS were 15 seconds clear. Jake cruised around in 6.16 and crossed the finishing line 27 seconds to the good. A whole avalanche of top clubs were struggling to keep LPS in their sights. The strength of the squad is reflected in the fact that Jake was second fastest on the day, David third and Chris 5th. Unsurprisingly the club broke the existing course record by three seconds |
| 16 Named as among the best in the North West The quality coaching environment at Edge Hill University sees an amazing 16 LPS athletes selected for the North West Athletics Academies. Given the clubs fearsome reputation over 400m it is nor entirely surprising that no fewer than five athletes, Mark Grimshaw, Harry Doran, Jack McGinn, Wayne Ashall and Daniel Higham are picked. The three athletes who have already collected national relay gold medals this season for the club, David Forrester(800m), Jake Helm(1500m) and Chris Hesketh(1500m) join them plus Andrew Bowen at 3000m. The burgeoning throws group has produced Lauren Cummins(Discus), Becky Keegan(Javelin), Emma Carter(Javelin), Luke Parker(Javelin) and Tony West who is named for both Discus and Hammer throws. As if that was not enough Mark Leicester appears on the Long Jump list plus Jacob Shaw in the High Jump. An astonishing recognition of the club`s growing status in the region. The Mid-Lancashire Cross Country League continued at Burnley`s Townley Park. At Under 13 there were five finishers, an excellent third place for Adam Goldfarb plus Warren Turner(16), a stunning debut for Kyle Nicholls(17), Joe Hanlon(18) and Matthew Scragg(22). The Under 15 star trio of Forrester, Hesketh, and Helm were engaged elsewhere but Mike Bride steeped up to grab 4th followed by Ed Rimmer who finished a storming 6th but may be ruled out on a number technicality. Sean Dignam(21), Chris Hatton(22) and Mike Fairclough(36) ensured the club stay in touch with the leaders. At Under 17 Andrew Bowen continued his resurgence with third place with back up from Rob McLoughlin(15) and Matt Lloyd(26). The Under 20 trio of Danny Gordon(8), Joe McKenna(9) and Martin Cooke(12) ensure the club will have a say in this title race. Three younger girls appeared Rachel Abraham(43) in the Under 13 and Emma Bowen(8) and Emma Binns(11) at Under 15. Kirsty Longley continues to run strongly in the Senior Women`s event finishing 21st and will surely improve on that.
