Two Victories for Merrik at World Vets Merrik Bousfield a young 52 returned from the world vets throwing cup in Hungary held on 4 & 5th August with two victories. Over the course of the weekend ten separate throwing events were contested, Merrik contested nine of the events winning two, was runner up in six, and fifth in one. Apart from these victories, he also achieved no less than eleven pbs in individual and combined events. His strongest event – and one of the events he won – was the shot pentathlon, comprising three standing putts at each of five different weights. Results – 4kg – 16.07m; 5kg – 15.07m; 6kg – 13.89m; 7.26kg – 12.76m; 10kg – 10.42m. These were all PBs for standing putts apart from the 10kg. However, his most satisfying result was the Throws Pentathlon in which he finishes 2nd. Results – Discus (1.5kg) 41.25m; Shot (6kg) 14.14m; Hammer (6kg) 43.82m; Heavy Hammer (25lb/41cm) 16.50m; Javelin (800g) 37.35m. These were all absolute PBs apart from the javelin. He also improved his PB score by nearly 500 points to 4,224 points. The shot (first time over 14m) elevates him to 5th on the UK all time list, and would have been comfortably enough for a bronze medal at the recent World Veterans Championships in Brisbane. With all his other PBs already set recently this year in the BVAF Championships and the Northern League, this has quite easily been his best year ever. No date |
Well done Michael. Congratulations to Michael Zaim for passing his A levels and successfully gaining a place at Loughborough University to study a degree in PE, Sports Science and Recreation. Not only will he continue with his academic studies but he hopes to pursue his sprinting career by obtaining a place in the university athletics squad for the forthcoming season. However, Michael will continue to represent LPS so look out for the famous Loughborough violet tracksuit in the Northern League next year. No date |
