While it`s been a successful year for our track and field athletes those who took to the road have also enjoyed themselves. The highly rated Salford 10K attracted some 2500 runners. This was a race Kirsty Longley won last year but had to yield to Rachel Burns of the Harriers on this occasion. Nevertheless second lady, an overall position of 31st and a time of 36.22 is mightily impressive.
Earlier in August Greg Callaghan took part in the last of the Astley Park Trail Series in Chorley. He came home in 28th and second O50 Vet on the night but took first overall in the series. At the Burton-on-Trent 10K he was representing the Prison Service. The race was won by Carl Davies of Telford AC in 32.20 but Greg finished strongly in 18th spot with an excellent 36.15 and first O50.
John Wealthy and Bua Kalasiram finished 17th (18.47) and Bua 33rd (20.59) in the Lancaster 5K Road Series but have also enjoyed one or two Fell races. At Boulsworth near Colne John was 60th (63.50) and Bua 86th (69.13). It looks like Bua placed second in her age group. In the final Harrock Hill Race at Bispham John recorded 47th (39.37) and Bua 81st (43.06) who is clearly catching her partner! Greg also popped up here in 39th (38.59) with Robbie Wood not far adrift at 41st (39.24) and second in the O55 category.
The Capenhurst 5K saw Kirsty run a very useful 17.38 for first O35 lady. Robbie was on 19.42 and third O55. John Dobie occupied a similar position in the O65 group with 21.48.
