The forthcoming English Schools Track and Field Championships at Birmingham sees Liverpool Pembroke Sefton fielding six quality athletes. For Merseyside Joe Milton takes on the Under 15 300m. Joe has had an amazing season and his current time of 36.9 places him second in the National rankings. Also in the hunt for medals will be fifth ranked U17 Amelia McLaughlin who recently heralded a return to form with a 1.72m High Jump. A former English Schools Champion she is used to raising her game in major events. With these two is U17 Rosie Johnson who had an excellent series of quality performances during the cross country season and has posted 4.32.77 1500m in the run-up to these games. Poised 8th nationally she also will be chasing a medal.
For Lancashire the best prospect looks to be Martin Greaves-Thomas who has burst through this season to rank sixth currently in the UK lists at 100m in 11.4. Other Under 15`s are Lucy Staunton-Turner 19th placed in the Javelin(30.35m) but capable of a lot more. Finally Ed Latimer`s 38.9 for 300m sees him apparently on the fringe of things but another second off his best time might see him progress to the semis if not finals. These championships are the `Olympics’ of schools competition and the atmosphere is often electric.
