There was beautiful weather at Beacon Park for the first of the Liverpool and District Cross Country League matches.
of Liverpool Pembroke Sefton was quickly up with the leaders in his first senior encounter and was showing no signs of intimidation. James Riley of Liverpool Harriers eased away but Nelson held on to second spot for two of the initial laps and then appeared to be slipping backwards to fourth. However, he put together a stunning finish coming home second, delighted but thoroughly exhausted. The Burscough boy will progress even further this winter.
Another pleasant surprise for the club was Matt Thompson, National Veterans 800m champion, who looked comfortable in 17th place followed by a quartet of other vets, Graham Cairns(28), Chris Pedder(31), Paul Targett(33) and Greg Callaghan(44). Also present were Robbie Woods(52), Danny Gilbody(67) and Sean Kendall(115). Overall the team was only fourth but there will be more fire-power at the next match. Results
Kirsty Longley ventured a bit further afield going to Winsford for a 10K multi-terrain event. Grass, gravel, hills and mud did not deter Kirsty who finished overall fourth but first lady by over 5 minutes in the excellent time of 37.07. She really does sparkle in 10K events.
