LPS has a great history of supporting local Park Runs and so it was fitting that as Ormskirk celebrated its 400th event that we helped make the day special with over 20 athletes and a number of volunteers.
I may be biased but it was also great to see LPS finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd with another 2 in the top ten. It’s particularly pleasing when you see young athletes from the club progress in this environment where they can just enjoy the run. It was fitting therefore that it was five of our younger athletes that finished in the top ten.
Course record holder Se Loughlin finished 1st in a comfortable time of 16:13 followed by Alex Proctor in 17:11. In 3rd place was Reuben Anderson with a personal best OPR time of 18:43. Keeping up the youth charge was Daniel Liggat, who also achieved a PB of 18:58 whilst finishing in 6th place. Not to be outdone by his brother, Dan Proctor matched his PB of 19:06 to come home in 9th place.
It’s always eye catching to see the age range JM10 after someone’s name and think that they’re going to be running somewhere behind their mum or dad. Think again, Jack Clancy who isn’t even 11 yet smashed his PB and finished in 21:03. So not only did I get lapped by my son and Alex Proctor after about 2.5 k, I don’t mind admitting that one of our youngest athletes was about 1km ahead of me. …. “It’s not a race, it’s not a race, it’s not a race ….I am trying to tell myself”.
Laura Bardsley was also 1st lady home making it a clean sweep for LPS and a decent run out before her iron man competition.
Thanks to Ormskirk Park Run (Gordon Johnson) for the photos.
Park run is great for the community and a gentle way to start running, for those of you that do this but haven’t yet taken part in our cross country events, why not give it a go. They’re fun, competitive and challenging. We really want to make sure that we have male and female teams out across all age groups this season.
For those parents who run or like to be involved why not consider becoming an official for athletics and x country events. If this is of interest to you have a chat to Karen or Dave at the club or complete this form https://www.lps-athletics.co.uk/volunteer/
