In the blink of an eye the summer season is nearing its end with only a handful of track and field events remaining.
Saturday 19th August sees our final Northern League fixture at Wrexham. The club will pay for your petrol for the trip (£20.80) but, if you can, please share car spaces. Please let your coaches know if you are available.
The remaining Mid Lancs event is a medal meeting on Saturday 26th August. Entries are now open and will close on 23rd August.
Remember that even if you have completed at other Mid Lancs events this T&F season you still need to enter yourself for this one and you will be allocated a new number which you will collect from Registration on the day. You must register via www.midlancs.org.uk or by clicking here .
You can still enter if you have not competed at two mid lancs events but to win a medal you have to have competed at two of the following mid lancs competitions Blackburn, Carlisle, Litherland, Bury or Lancaster.
On 9th September we have the North West Road Relays at Heaton Park in Manchester followed by the Northern Road Relays at Birkenhead Park on 24 Sep. We are looking to send teams across all age groups to both events.
Summer holidays have meant a relatively quieter few weeks but here’s a brief summary.
Tom Mattack, Mark Hudson and Joanna Durkin all took part in the Preston 10 mile and 5 mile race and, whilst the official results have yet to be published they all performed well. Tom mattack continuing his ever improving trend took around 7 minutes off his previous best time and six million dollar man Mark completed the 10 mile course in 1:12.06 whilst Joanna completed the 5 mile in a personal best of 33:12 PB to ensure that she won the veteran category and received a box of celebrations.
Thanks a lot to Alan Hutchinson for the photograph of the start.
Over in Leeds, Se Loughlin had a decent 3000m tustle with Callie Thackrey eventually coming in just ahead of her in around 8:54. Given the weather on the night it was a good performance, especially as Commonwealth Games athlete Callie went on to win the Podium 5k in 15:28 over the weekend.
We’re looking forward to seeing our athletes at the Northern leage in Wrexham this weekend, the Mid Cheshire 5k on 25th and, of course, the road relays.
Let’s not forget our field athletes, who have been invited to Liverpool Harriers Liverpool Throws and Jumps meeting on Sat 16th September at Wavertree.
