The sun shone on the club today in the Northern Road relays (and 5k races) at Birkenhead Park as we fielded 6 teams across both junior and senior age groups.
Our senior men “A” team produced their best ever performance in the 12 stage relays, finishing in 10th position overall, with notable performances across the whole team. In particular, Joe Niven completing his leg in 15:25, making him 7th fastest from 389 on the day.
Only 8 clubs of the 50 managed to put out an “A” and “B” team, we were one of those, which is testament to the stewardship of Team Captain, Mark Wynne and coach Mark Bleasdale.
With the men’s “B” team finishing 35th overall, there’s a strength in depth starting to show through.
Our Senior ladies fielded 4 but were in 19th place at this point thanks to consistent runs across the team made up of Lisa Gawthorne, Rachel Yates, Sarah Grant and Joanna Durkin.
In the junior events there was more success for our U15 girls team who finished with a bronze medal. All of the team achieving their best times over the distance.
In the U15 boys event, Myles Fraser continues to impress and finished overall 6th in a personal best time of 16:42. This is an achievement shared by a large number of our athletes on the day, so it was a good start to the season.
As a footnote, it was really encouraging to list three athletes as first time competitors (or returning after long absence) for the club. Beau Egan and Hayden Grant for the boys and Iris Davidson for the junior girls.
