(This has also been sent out as an email but I am aware that some people’s email addresses are probably out of date).
We hope this finds you and your loved ones fit and well. Now that the country is on the roadmap out of lockdown we decided it was time to give you an update on what’s happening clubwise and also to get some idea of your plans to help us draw up a plan for a return to training at Edge Hill.
Firstly, we have been in contact with the Sports Centre management at Edge Hill again – although they cannot give us a concrete date for us to be able to return to the track they are confident that it will be possible sooner rather than later. Their hands are tied by the University whose first priority is of course student provision – at the moment various activities that would normally take place indoors are having to be moved outside on to pitches or the track and the timetable needs to be finalised before the Sports Centre can resume hiring out facilities. They are keen for us to return as soon as possible and we will let you know once we have a plan in place.
Both the Northern League and the Mid Lancs intend to run meetings this summer – the dates are below.
NORTHERN LEAGUE – as plans stand only three matches this season
Match 1* – Saturday 19th June – Edge Hill University – jointly hosted between LPS and Liv Harriers
Match 2 – Sunday 4th July – Sports City Manchester
Match 3 – Sunday 1st August – Sports Village, Leigh
(*Match 1 is subject to confirmation that we can book the track – we should have confirmation in next week or so)
NB – for 2021 there will be no promotions or relegations at the end of the season.
MID LANCS LEAGUE
Match 1 – Saturday 17th April – Stanley Park, Blackpool – CANCELLED
Match 2 – Saturday 29th May – Wilson Playing Fields, Hyndburn – UNCERTAIN*
Match 3 – Sunday 20th June – Preton Arena, UCLAN – UNCERTAIN*
Match 4 – Saturday 3rd July – Salt Ayre Track, Lancaster
Match 5 – Saturday 31st July – Litherland Sports Park, Liverpool
Medal Meeting – Saturday 21st August – Witton Park, Blackburn
*to be reviewed when updated EA Covid guidance available.
In order to help us put a plan together it would be of great help if you could give us an indication of your intentions with regards the club. We understand that some people may have decided to move on to other things and do not plan to return when training resumes – some athletes will want to remain members but not train at the track – we need to know so that we can get a realistic estimate of how many people will want to attend sessions (we expect to be restricted in numbers by the Uni and under Covid guidance).
We also need to know whether you plan to take part in the Leagues or any other competitive event prior to 31st August – EA have declared that anyone competing up until 31st August needs to have been registered for the 2020/2021 year (ie 1st April 2020 – 30th March 2021). A number of athletes have been registered already but there are many who have not been because there was no competition available for them to do. Please note that LPS Membership for 2021/2022 will fall due from 1st October 2021 and you will be asked to renew from that date regardless of whether you intend to compete.
To make things as straightforward as possible please email me (karenprobert@yahoo.co.uk) indicating which of the options below best reflects your plans. Please can you reply ASAP as anyone intending to compete before 31st August will need me to register them in the next few days.
1) I will be returning to training at Edge Hill and wish to compete in the Leagues or open meetings before 31st August 2021.
2) I will be returning to training at Edge Hill but DO NOT plan to compete in the Leagues or open meetings before 31st August 2021.
3) I will not be returning to training at Edge Hill but do wish to compete in the Leagues or open meetings before 31st August 2021.
4) I will not be returning to training at Edge Hill and DO NOT plan to compete in the Leagues or open meetings before 31st August 2021.
5) I will not be returning to training at Edge Hill and no longer wish to be a member of LPS.
We hope to see as many as possible of you back training in the sport we love. There will be a number of obstacles we need to get over but finally there seems to be a way ahead.
