ESAA Championships 2019

What a fantastic group of athletes the Merseyside Schools team were at the 2019 ESAA Track and Field Championships. They were exemplary in their conduct and behaviour both on and off the track and a credit to their parents, schools, clubs and County.

The amazing performances of our athletes meant that we left the Championships with a total of eight individual medals, twelve National Standards and two team trophies – our best performance as a County for some years! The Junior Boys retained the Durham Trophy and we also won the Bradford Cup for the highest aggregate score for B category Counties.

Congratulations to our individual medal winners (* indicates a National Standard):

Gold:

Bekki Roche (IG Hammer) *

Silver:

Kresten Calvert (JB Triple Jump) *

Henry Nwoke (IB 100m) *

Charlie Roberts (IB 800m) *

Dan Preston (SB 1500m) *

Bronze:

Ethan Flaherty (IB 400m Hurdles) *

Neave McGhee (IG 200m) *

Gabrielle O’Neil (IG High Jump)

National Standards were also achieved by: Luka Sidebotham (JB 300m), Matthew Lui (JB Long Jump), James Carroll (SB Shot), Imogen Pughe (JG 300m) and Zoe Price (SG Hammer).

Congratulations to Bekki Roche, Henry Nwoke and Charlie Roberts who have also been selected to represent England Schools at the SIAB International meeting in Swansea next weekend. Everyone at Merseyside Schools AA wishes them the best of luck.

This year we say goodbye to our Year 13 athletes: Dan Preston, James Carroll and Juliet Hodder who have all represented Merseyside Schools with distinction over a number of years. We wish you the very best of luck with whatever you choose to do next year.

Finally, we would like to say a huge thank you to Karyn Hannaway, Pam Green, Joe Green, Lynn Webb and Julian Hopkins for all their hard work in both the lead up to, and during the Championships. Their help has been invaluable – thank you!

Audra Goodall and Paul Jamieson (Team Managers)
