Liverpool Pembroke & Sefton travelled to Tameside for their final Northern League track & field fixture. Although not as dominant as in their previous 3 matches, the team triumphed again, recording 32 first place finishes in the A & B events. Final positions were 1. 408 LPS, 2.387 East Cheshire, 3. 196 Border, 4. 197 Burnley, 5. 152 Salford Met., 6.135 Horwich/Chorley
Jonathon Bride was the star of the men’s team, winning all 3 of his middle distance events at 800m (2:03.6), 1500m (4:38.8) & 5K (17:05.08). He was closely followed by Harry Doran, who did likewise in the sprints, winning the 100m (11.5), 200m (22.2) & 400m (51.7). Matt Ingram dominated the horizontal jumps, winning both the long (6.48m) & triple jumps (13.10m), as too did Kai Finch (1.95m) & Owen Southern (1.80m) in taking first and second place in the high jump. Veteran, Mark Line, made a valuable contribution to the points total with his performances in his five field events which included victory in the discus (30.5m) & pole vault (2.40m). Meanwhile, Marcus Bathie continues to improve in the 400m hurdles, finishing second in 69.2 sec.
Fifteen year old, Lauren Lewis, showed a clean pair of heels to her opponents in the 100m (12.6) & 200m (25.9), achieving personal best performances in both events. Lucy Townson matched her with victories in the 400m (59.3) & 400m hurdles (70.2), setting a new pb in both events. Kirsty Longley & Hilary Honeyball managed second place finishes in 1500m and 3K A & B events, while Erin Birchall’s leap of 5.14m was a new pb for her as she won the long jump. She even discovered a new talent by taking 2nd place in the high jump (1.40m). Alex Bunclark won both of her ‘B’ events with 7.40m in the shot & 1.30m in the high jump. Throwers Jenny Pyatt & Lucy Wroblewski amassed valuable team points from their events, with Jenny winning the discus (40.17m) & shot (9.84m) & Lucy the ‘B’ discus (23.30m)
At the end of the meeting the club was presented with the League Trophy and can now look forward to life in division 2 next season.
