This year, the National Masters’s Cross Country Championships were held at a wet and windy Wavertree on Saturday, with 3 LPS runners taking part. Kevin Usher, fresh from his triumph in the Northern Championships at Doncaster earlier in the month was always in contention. However he had to settle for 4th place (27.03) in the over 50 category while Sammy Rashid finished 10th(29.38). Club captain, Mark Wynne, was 8th in the over 40 category (27.36)
Sefton Primary School’s Championships
The Sefton primary schools cross country championships were held in glorious sunshine on Wednesday at Jubilee Wood in Maghull and 3 LPS youngsters competed. James Read (Year6B) was always in the leading group and was pleased with his bronze medal. In the girl’s race Abigail Slater was 17th, with Eve Hannaway finishing 11th in the year 5 girl’s race.
No Joy at the English School’s Championships
It was a long trek to Norwich to compete in this year’s English Schools’ Cross country Championships, for the 4 LPS youngsters selected to represent their
county. Dan Jones, representing Lancashire, was 166th in the senior boy’s race, with Joe Gordon, running for Merseyside 208th. At Inter Boys level, Adam Jones (120th) and Ross Harrison (192nd) were both part of the Lancashire team that finished 12th out of the 44 counties competing.
