Mid-Lancs League
The fifth Mid-lancs race of the season took place at the prestigious Rossall School on Lancashire’s Fylde Coast. With a bitterly cold wind blowing from the Irish Sea it was no race for the feint hearted. However, it also coincided with the half-term holidays and led to LPS teams being depleted.
Best individual performance of the day came from Mark Roberts whose 5th place was his best of the season. Supported by Nicholas Usher(16), Jack Hitchmough(32), Jake Ferreira(39) & Daniel Rathbone(40) the U13B team finished 6th. The U13G matched them with Faye Hannaway(19), Freya Wissett(37) & Ruth Usher(48) also securing a 6th team placing.
The only other team on the day was the U11B who finished 8th. They were led home by James Read(21), with James Roberts (31), Josh Price(33), Evan Williams(37) & Jamie Cowan(56). The U11G had the ever improving Chloe Bousfield (14) and Abigail Slater (46).
There were however, some excellent individual performances in the older age groups. Alex Bunclark was 5th in the U17W race, Joe Gordon 7th in U17M, Tom Corcoran (9) at U15 level while Jenny Williamson (9) & Amelia Hitchmough(15) represented the girls in the same age group.
With one race remaining, the strongest teams will be needed to keep medal hopes alive.
Parbold Hill Race
The popular Parbold Hill race also took place on Saturday and the 46th staging of the event was as popular as ever with its entry limit soon reached. For Liverpool Pembroke & Sefton, the day was a tale of two veterans. The outstanding Dobie, at 70 years of age, finished 204th (67.29) beating over half the field, many of whom were half his age.
KIirsty Longley now in O40 category was always in contention in the women’s race before finishing 3rd female, first O40 and 31st overall in a time of 49.09
Other LPS runners in the race were Andrew Foster (36), Chris Pedder(42), Debbie Campbell(51.32) Mark JohnHudson(102), and Robbe Wood(180)
