The Liverpool Half Marathon attracts a huge and talented field. Liverpool Pembroke Sefton star, Kirsty Longley, was hopeful once again of a high finishing spot. True to form she took on the best of the women but an unfortunate late choice of footwear, it can happen to the best, meant she blistered early. In spite of the pain she soldiered on losing and then regaining ground on her rivals. Her sheer courage eventually saw her through to 79th overall but third female in a miraculous time of 1.22.17. This took 90 seconds off her previous best and was naturally another club record. She is an outstanding example of courage and perseverance.
Also in the race Paul Milburn, busy transforming himself from a sprinter to a useful distance runner, was 48th in 1.19.50. Danny Gilbody(285) recorded 1.30.37 while Vicky Jones(762) was on 1.38.58. Evergreen John Dobie(1083) ran 1.45.54.
The Jones brothers, Adam and Dan, once again collected county vests representing Lancashire in the Inter-counties Cross Country Championships at the challenging Cofton Park course in Birmingham. Adam was 92nd in the Under 15s, Dan 87th in the U17s. Morag Molyneux, also Lancashire, was 80th in the U20 event.
The 5K Park Runs continue to attract those hoping to improve their personal bests. At Edge Hill University youngsters Tom Dickinson(18.51) and Joe Houghton(18.52) achieved this racing neck to neck throughout. Jake Dickinson(20.40) and Jessica Gonzalez-Green(23.06) also hit the same target. Other LPS members present were Thomas Hargan(24.12), Holly Rylance(24.17) and Matthew Hargan(25.39).
