Liverpool Pembroke Sefton’s outstanding High Jump prospect, Jade Murphy, had an afternoon to remember at the Sale Harriers Open Indoor Meet at SportCity, Manchester. Already established as one of the best Under 13 leapers in the country she soared to new heights beating her personal best no fewer than four times to complete a 1.61m. Under the coaching influence of Dave McComb the Ormkirk St Bede`s pupil has made rapid progress and this performance will be noted by her rivals nationwide.
Mid Lancs Cross Country
In the less hospitable surroundings of the Wilson Playing Fields, Hyndburn the club’s cross country running fraternity gathered for a Mid-Lancs League match. Star performance here came from Under 17, Rosie Johnson, who swept to victory in majestic style. With a succession of championship events scheduled in the New Year this performance will also attract attention further afield. Others catching the eye are the Sacred Heart pairing of Kyle Robinson-Murray and Daniel Slater. At Under 13 Kyle was a confident 3rd while Daniel battled it out at U15 against some tough opposition to record an impressive second slot.
Once again the ultra-reliable Kirsty Longley led home the club`s Senior Women in third place and with Lisa Gawthorne(21 and Lauren Wilson(27 third team Three more back-ups in the shape of Vicki Jones(30), Kirsty McKenzie(48) and Donna Hoban(91) brought home a B team in 17th.
The Senior Men could only field 5 runners but acquitted themselves well. Warren Turner was a respectable 10th with James Loftus(26), Ryan Blackwell(34), Stuart Haw(56) and Danny Gilbody(97). However, the incorporated Junior race had Warren(2), James(4), Ryan(7) and Stu(8) to comprehensively take the team race.
Elsewhere at U11 the Boys fielded Jake Dickinson(26) and the Girls Isabel Fearon(26), Megan Lovett(27) and Imogen Fearon(42). The U13 Girls closed a team in 4th place led by Megan Barnsley(15), Alex Barnsley(24), Mia Smith(29) and Katie Richardson(37). After Kyle Robinson-Murray(3) in the equivalent Boys race the club had Tom Dickinson(18) and Matt Slater(34). Similarly the club was unable to complete teams at U15 with only Morag Molyneux(6) and Charlotte Mawdsley(19) in the Girls and Jack Crook(11) supporting Daniel Slater(2) in the Boys. There was better luck at U17 where Chris Webber(15) Joe Chadderton(18) and Josh Chapman(20) combined for 5th team.
