Kirsty Longley is a prolific racer and operates outside the comfort zone of most athletes. She demonstrated this again at the Wirral 10K immediately establishing herself amongst the leading men`s group. A blustery wind slowed the field but it was only in the closing stages that four men managed to edge away from the Liverpool Pembroke Sefton star. Her time of 37.09 was astonishing in the conditions. Needless to say she was five minutes clear of the next female. Her bravery and consistency has once more caught the eye of national selectors and she will pull on another England vest at the British Masters Championships to be held in Cardiff’s picturesque Bute Park in November.
The Half Marathon held in conjunction with this race saw Ben Costello in action. He too was always in touch with the leaders throughout and will be enormously pleased to take second spot only 20 seconds behind the winner, Martin Swensson, in a highly satisfactory 1.13.31. Job commitments prevent Ben from racing more often but he is clearly in fine shape. Watch Bay TV Coverage of Event
