It wa s the girls who showed the way in the openingcross country fixture of the Mid-Lancs league.Although wet underfoot, the weather conditions were ideal, as runners made their way around the grounds of Towneley Hall in Burnley.
Rosie Johnson was made to work hard for her victory in the U15 Girl’s race and supported by Corinne Molyneux (14), Rosie Walsh(28) & Kate Croft(29)she brought the team home in 2nd place. Kirsty Longley was a more comfortable winner in the senior women’s race. With Lisa Gawthorne (21), Bua Kalisiram (34)Leia Bowes (39)and Abby Kelly(48) the team had to settle for 4th placeoverall.
The best team performance came from the U13 Girls who won their race. Erin Staunton-Turner had an excellent cross country debut for the club finishing 4th, whilst Morag Molyneux (14), Megan Barnsley (22)and sister Alex(30)were the other team counters.Georgie Hannaway (18)was the sole runner in the U17 Girl’s race.
The best male performance came from the U17 Boys with Ryan Blackwell(4), James Grundy(5) and James Loftus(14)who finished 2nd. The surprise result came from the U15 boys who exceeded expectations in finishing in 3rd place. Daniel Wright(9),Jack Crook(15), Chris Webber(21), Joe Chadderton(27) were the team counters with Max Cotterill in 39th place. The U13 Boys with Josh Forrest(9), Joe Martin (31) & Joe Marshall (41) failed to finish a team. Mid Lancs Results
To cap a truly ladies weekend, Kirsty Longley (38.01) won the Natterjack Southport 10K on the Sunday whilst Lisa Gawthorne matched her feat in winning the Gingerbread 10K in Ormskirk on the same day.
