The British Masters Championships were at Derby and Matt Thompson was crowned O40 800m champion. After a slow start Matt started a long run for home grabbing a 15 metre lead. His opponents cut this back at the tape but were unable to stop him claiming the title in 2.06.07. At the same meet another Liverpool Pembroke Sefton athlete Dave Brown competed in four O45 events with 3rd place joy in the Javelin(39.47m) and Discus(30.19m) plus two fifth spots in the Hammer(29.52m) and Shot(10.29m). Paul Rudkin ran a M35 3000m Steeplechase in 12.55.93.
Earlier in the week at the Tony Barnes Memorial 5 mile race in Sefton Park Kirsty Longley glided to yet another victory in 29.59. She is putting together a formidable run of success on the road as well as track personal bests elsewhere. Chris Pedder(30.26)was 24th in the race but prominent in his age group.
