Sam Hutchinson 3rd at AAA Local athletes were at Birmingham for the Under 17 AAA of England Championships. Star performer for Liverpoool Pembroke Sefton was Sam Hutchinson who took the bronze medal in the Under 15 800m in an excellent 1.59.95. Also at Under 15 Jack McGinn made the final of the 400m finishing 7th but his time in the heats of 53.27 brought a smile to the face of coach, Ray Twentyman. Elsewhere in the Under 17s Alex Stokes ran 11.6 for the 100m, Matthew McCracken a respectable 52.47 for the 400m and Natalie Walsh threw 31.41 in the Womens Discus final. McGinn and Walsh have been rewarded for their efforts by being picked for their county in the Inter-counties match at Cudworth. Mark Grimshaw has gone one better being selected for the North of England at 400m in the parallel Inter-Area match at Ipswich. For track and field athletes this signals the end of a memorable season with numerous personal bests and championship placings. September marks the beginning of the road and cross country season where expectations are equally high. 15 August 2004 |
